Food Inc. - Adam Beek

Food Inc. is a very educational movie that is a real eye opener. I never realize how much politics is involved in the food business. The fact that the lady was scared to simply say what she feeds her family is totally ridiculous. That really just proves that the food industry has something that they don’t want exposed. That is pure corruption and bad mindedness of these big companies to know what harmful things they are putting in their food but do nothing to stop it. They are the reason America is so fat and known to be one of the unhealthiest countries in the world. I don’t agree that the reason for America being so fat is because fast food is cheaper. I mean, yes that’s true but there are many ways to work around resorting to fast food like growing your own farm. There are also cheap foods that can be bought and easily prepared for example corned beef with white rice, salt fish, and many others. Also there aren’t enough fruit trees growing throughout America for public use. I think people should be able to go to the park and pick an orange. Its also really poor that these companies are bringing over these workers illegally and treat them like dirt. That is a real problem because in a way they are still helping the people they bring over. They are taking advantage of the desperate immigrants that want to get to America to start a better life for themselves in what is suppose to be the land of opportunity. Long and short of it is that America has way too many rules and regulations and got themselves into this mess. They have all these laws protecting the companies and that prevent people from speaking out against the industry. Also not enough meals are cooked at home in America. Families rely too much on restaurants and quick microwavable foods. I actually don’t think that the companies are fully responsible for this problem in America. The people also have to take some responsibility and analyze their lives to figure out what they can do to better their health. Eating healthily takes more effort and time to prepare which is why so many people don’t bother with it. These big companies are just providing the goods. I like way that one of the guys in the video but it while speaking about Wal-Mart. He said that when you shop you are voting; by buying organic goods you are fighting against the problem. The health of America is in the hands of its people.
