In Schlosser’s introduction to Fast Food Nation, he makes it clear that many people have little to no regard about what they are putting into their bodies. I completely agree with Schlosser due to the fact that fast food dominates the way we eat. I strongly believe that majority of people are more interested in the taste of the food than anything else. Although these fast food restaurants may be appealing in taste, the general unawareness of their origin seems to keep them popular. Personally, I grew up eating fast food on trips with my parents and always enjoyed it. After seeing the film Food Inc, however, I have become much more hesitant to eat at a fast food joint. It is clear that these large companies try to hide the meat they are selling; because there is no way that a one dollar burger is the freshest meat. The corn that they are feeding the cows is unnatural. Since this is so, the food that we are eating comes from an animal not grow how it should be. What we put into our bodies is a personal choice- no one can make me eat anything and I cannot make anyone else eat what I think is the right choice. I do feel that there are undoubtedly larger ramifications that just taste in a food, but the problem is whether or not the consumer is willing to sacrifice taste for health. After watching Food Inc, it is apparent that the beef which comes from these massive factories can become fatal. The massive amount of calories in fast food combined with grade of meat being served can cause both immediate illness and obesity. Many children today are suffering from diabetes which is attained by eating massive qualities of sugar in their product. The food industry clearly tries to keep where they get their food from for good reason. I strongly feel that if more people were educated on the food they are choosing, they would make healthier choices. Furthermore, the ingredients which are found on labels will often try and hide what they use. It is, however, the consumer’s decision to choose what kind of food they want.
